Journey to receiving a LVAD HeartMate iii pump.... while traveling, Larry had 3 heart attacks, this is my story of how he survived and was able to get home and receive his Left Ventricle Assist Device... I am his wife, and there were many moments I thought he would not live. I began writing this as a way to update our family and friends... Larry has begun making his own posts.... another step to our new normal lifestyle....

But alert, no confusion, asking questions, oriented....
Larry has talking to nurse Matt about Arkansas and HB....
Dialysis still continuing...
So difficult for me not being able to be with him...

Last night update
I talked to his night nurse at 11pm.... haven't heard this morning, will give them time to do their evaluations before I call.
They did a covid test just as precaution, haven't heard
Added oxygen, his breathing was not labored, but he is a mouth breather, and this is a comfort factor for him.... he uses an oxygen concentrator sometimes at home, o level was 96...
Potassium is down to 4, normal.
BUN down to 32
Creatine down to 2.7
But he had a black stool, which means blood in stool, but that could be because his INR was up to 8, it came down yesterday to 1.4, so they started his coumadin back
Any cards you send, will be held here of course, since I cant get back in to see him.... didn't get to facetime yesterday because he was too tired...
Thank for prayers....

Update Friday 4:30
Improving each time I talk to the nurses..... they are so great... nurse David last night asked them to not intubate him because he thought he was ok.... good call.
still on dialysis but probably will stop it tomorrow and just run at night..... to make sure..... still wanting to flush the potassium out of his system.......
most of his number are good now, and his kidneys are working.... peeing good.....
Fuzzy mind mostly all clear Except just the old man part....
Honestly just seeing the change in him from yesterday morning to 9pm then again at 2am this morning, I could see huge changes....
I just woke from a 3 hour nap.... had shower this morning, but I am ok with not being there...... with “not watching him sleep’’.......
That is my advice to any new LVAD caregivers....
yesterday was QTpi’s 6th birthday.... Our baby was as good as she always is.....
Update from 3am.
I got kicked out of the hospital at 3am this morning......but it was ok. Cause I want sure they would let me go anyway... but apparently the person who called me to tell me I could come for 24 hours and bring a change of clothing, forgot to tell the charge nurse.....
When I left he was being dialized
and his number were dropping into the range they wanted them....
potassium from 8 at check in. To. 5.3
Creatanine. 15.9. To 10
INR. 8.5. To 2.2 normal
MAP (bp). 62. To 86. Normal
Heart pump was doing well
He was making urine....
He was extremly tired, but was lucid.... calked to check, but the nurse was in with him.....
My body is really feeling the stress today....
We were doing so well, staying home, enjoying ourselves, when his kidneys decided to just need some attention.... this was a result of gallstones in his pancreatic duct 18 years that shut down his pancreas and caused him to be insulin dependent diabetic....so while not a new issue, it has been silent..
Anyway if you would like to send him an old fashioned card... send it to home... he would appreciate simple postcarf even..... or a signed mask. For him to use...
Thank you for reading this... it is still difficult to write, but we have had 3 more years of fun since the blog was begun

Prayers please for Larry....
he was transported to Tampa General Hospital this morning by ambulance... I was trying to get him into my car to take him, but he was too weak, so I called 911....
the response by our local EMS was amazing... less than 5 minutes... of course they are only 3 blocks away. But thanks..
Larry is in Severe Renal Failure, and since I am not even allowed in the hospital, Because of corona protocol.... i stayed home. Tampa General is an hour away, but he is still in Trauma Bay in the ER, where he will be taken to ICU... all I could do if I were there would be to sit in the car.....
The team there has bern great, keeping me posted by phone, but the severity is 10 on a 1-10 scale right now.... all numbers are out of whack, and will possibly do dialysis, which has its own risks, that is after they get his bleeding factor down, and his potassium down.... both are at critical levels right now.
I have friends all over, please add his name to your list tonight... I am ok, tired, worried, but ok.... he needs your prayers
I will begin to post again on my blog for updates....
UPDATE AT 9:13 pm on Thursday April 9th...
Ok this has been a bad day all sround, but I know how many people care about Larry and me...
At 4 the hospital called and told be they had made an exemption, and I could come spend 24 hours with him.... I arrived at some point, but am still waiting to see him...
Not good... but they are putting in a central line and will be putting him on dialysis..... dont know time frames... but He does need prayers... lots of them, I am ok, he is not....
My phone and Ipad are needing charging.... but thank you to all of the wonderful health care workers here who have been so great to keep me informed with many phone calls.....
