SOS - new on iphone ios11 update

This is great for anyone....   needs more publicity...

In iOS 11, Apple added a new emergency feature to the iPhone, which is designed to allow you to quickly and discreetly place a call to emergency services. In the United States, SOS dials 911, and in other countries, it works with local emergency responders.

When you press the sleep/wake button on the iPhone five times on a device running iOS 11, it brings up a slider menu that allows you to quickly slide a finger against the screen to place the emergency call.

The extra step makes sure you don't accidentally place a 911 call, but if you want to disable it, there's an "Auto Call" feature you can toggle on to bypass the swipe.

When you use Emergency SOS on an iPhone, the feature also disables Touch ID, preventing a would-be thief or other person with malicious intent from accessing your device without entering your passcode. It also automatically alerts any emergency contacts you've set in the Health app, sending them an iMessage with your location.

Enabling Auto Call
SOS is automatically included on every iPhone running iOS 11 and there is no disabling it. Activate it by pressing on the sleep/wake button five times in rapid succession to bring up the swipe interface. If you want the feature to call emergency services automatically without the need for an extra gesture, here's how to toggle it on:

With Auto Call enabled, your phone will dial "911" (or your country's emergency line) after a three second countdown that gives you enough time to cancel the call if it's placed accidentally.

Setting Emergency Contacts
As mentioned above, whenever you use the SOS feature, Apple will automatically notify your emergency contacts if you have them set.

Emergency contacts can be set up in the Health app:
Open the Health app.
Choose Medical ID.
Select "Edit" in the top right corner.
Scroll down to the Emergency Contacts section.
Tap the "+" button to add an emergency contact.

This is where you can add your lvad on call number

Hurry up to wait.....
I know there are things that need to be done prior to surgery, but sometimes it just seems like time stands still......

We were to check into the hospital by 9am, so we did, but had no rooms...  but only waited for 30 minutes.  We are sharing a room right now, but are still on 8th floor.....  Larrys roommate is similar age, etc, but has not yet been recommended for LVAD yet..  He has had lots of questions for us....

Surgery is scheduled for 5pm..... hopefully it will be on time, etc....  empty waiting is hard on Larry....

So I will update here as Things happen.

6:15pm.... just took Larry back to surgery

7:00 pm   No word yet...

7:42pm    Still in surgery.......

8:10   Message fromTori, our nurse......
‘’We are getting finished up. He is a little bit oozy.
Probably will be in CVICU in about 30-45 minutes.
Gonna get some labs before we wake him up. ‘’

It is sooooo dang hard to watch him go through this stuff....

Btw - I forgot to mention the Dr Ransom encounter today... it was about 1 minute after I parked the car... i was in the lobby going into the admission area....   Dr tapped on the glass and asked Larry if he wanted him to pull them.....

Finally in cvicu
I am home finally for some rest.... when I got into his room he was hurting really bad, got him more pain meds and he was doing better, i stayed with him till it kicked in....

Long day

usually we go to heart clinic on Monday mornings......   this week, Tori moved us to Wed at 2....  so that messed up our naptime.... and our lunchdate......

Actually it worked out just fine... i had a dentist appointment this morning.....  all Larrys fault, I had been procrastinating......   gonna lose 3 more bottom molars.., made a consult appointment with the other dentist....  blah..... etc.....  mine are not emergency.....

Then came home, lunch, then to heart clinic.....  today was lots of bloodwork, chest xray, dr visit, then echcardiogram.....   Dr Ransom did ramp his pump up some.   Larry is still having some breathing issues, but Dr Ransom said he saw absolutely no signs of heart failure....  GREAT...
its so hard to expkain, but when we go to clinic, it is like going to visit family.....
*when we got to lab, the lady stuck her head out to call Larry and said "hey, where have you been"
*got to xray, and of course the receptionist knows us...
*at the clinic desk, visiting with the fill in receptionist who also works xray desk
Oh yea.....  this is when Dr Ransom walked by, stopped for a minute, as he does...
*kim, who does vitals, had taken her a purple sparkly notebook, cause she loves purple sparkly.
*Tori, our nurse, has teased Larry a few months ago saying he had chicken legs...   he does not, but
They were not swollen, so to her they were.....   even her texts to him she put a 🍗or🐓In her
emoticons.....  so he ordered a pair of chicken leg socks to wear for her.......  she lived them so
much, that she got on ebay and ordered her a pair..  of course Jimmy and Opal had to see too.
*as larry was getting his echcardiogram, Tori, Jimmy and I were chatting....
Dr Ransom did ramp his rpm's up slightly.....
thought we were done, Tori said to let ys know on Friday how he was doing, got instructions for next weeks surgery....  the night of his surgery, he will spend in the CVICU.... which was a huge relief to me......
*as we walked out, big Josh, the CVICU manager was coming out of a meeting and came over and hugged me.....
Finally was walking out of the clinic, when heard a yell to us... it was Dr Ransom, running after us to get a photo of Larrys chicken leg socks, followed by Christina, LVAD coordinator, Josh, his PA, Jimmy, and Tori.....   had him take his shoes back off to get a better photo.....  we laughed for an hour....  then we went to eat...   crunchy chewy food before we begun the new tooth diets...

Grocery store aisles should either have lanes drawn on them or make them one way.....  i HATE to go to the grocery, but I hate even more going on senior discount day......

Ok, today Larry felt like getting out, and wanted to go pick ome foods he might like for his next stage, toothless.....  i could gave done it, but he wanted to go.....

Ok, just getting in was a chore, one woman almost wiped us out 3x as she was so involved in her phone conversation....

Ok made it inside, me dodging Larry, but guarding him too....   lol, remember I am quite clumsy myself.......

Got down the first aisle, turned right, was waiting right where we should have been, actually at a dead stop, when an older man who was driving one of the motorized carts.... proceeded to run head first into Larrys cart....  knocking him backwards, and almost making him fall......   i was yelling because I was of cours worried about the bag....   his lifeline....

Then dodging the store pickup shoppers with the giant carts, and the stock the shelf personnel.....

The whole trip was this bad....  stressful......

If you had one way aisles, maybe this would be better.......

But I still love living in a larger city with actual real choices.......   still fascinates me...

Sense of humor

it is hard to keep a sense of humor when things are looking dire, but we try.....  one thing which is funny to us, is that neither of us were considered funny people, rather serious...
but together we give each other laughter.....  i love that.  I live that i can be goofy and he loves me anyway....

Yesterday we were making up sign language so he could communicate with me...
a note here,  I have no upper teeth, have 4 dental implants, so I know dental surgery....

I went to go on an errand, and came home to find this printed on my table...  so funny....

Surgery date

Larry's teeth extraction surgery is scheduled for Thursday Sept 21 at 5pm.....  this is the time slot the oral surgeon is given....   busy OR...   takes about an hour, he will be asleep....  will be back on our 8th floor wing.... our LVAD angel Tori will be in with the surgery.

He will be in most likely for 3 nights...... and one good thing, he will get good pain drugs...  plus the nurses can monitor his INR......  but prayers are always appropriate and requested....

Dental

Dental problems with an LVAD are not a good thing....  for one thing gum infection bacteria is the worst kind of infection to have... if it gets into the blood stream, it goes straight to the heart......

Larry went to oral surgeon today, after seeing a regular dentist.....   while half of his teeth are not too bad....  his gums are really bad....  like all of his teeth are going to have to come out to get it....  of course, he will be back in the hospital for surgery....   not sure of date, they will check and get back with us tomorrow...

He knows this is imminent....  all now, or go through it again....  not worth taking the risk and then having to do it again...  all is the wiser choice.  He even has one wisdom tooth that is sideways.....  he never knew he had that....

More later...

Edit.....

Our LVAD coordinator, Tori will be in OR during the surgery, will take about an hour.   He will go into hospital the day before, to our same 8th floor to get his blood thinner off, then they will get it back up as soon as it is safe...  Dr Hugh Burnett is the oral surgeon for the heart unit.....  he must be great, cause Tori had him do her wisdom teeth....

Tired of PP

Tired of possum poop,  finally got the new floor finished and the fleas gone, so decided to clean up the studio......

good grief, I didnt realize it, but apparently in the last 10 years I morphed into the dreaded art hoarder......   then on top of that, and under that, and behind that was at least a full quart bag of dried possum poop.....  yep really....  i wore gloves, got it up, vacuumed with shop vac, then steamed everything again and then again...... i had gotten one of those waste management bags and it is filling up.....

Funny. larry watched me carry bags and stuff down the stairs, but had no idea just how much there was....  i was ashamed, but he said it was just project phases.....   lol...  no it really was junk and trash....  but it is finally getting presentable, more more importantly it is now going to be usable....  i am excited about it again.....

Larry is the reason why I began painting... his encouragement was amazing...  then when I expressed an interest in ceramics, he bought a kiln and a pottery wheel...  again amazing...  we both did warm glass work in the kiln, me jewelry, he did larger slumped glass work....  he built me an area to cut mats on and even made frames for me....  he also has a tshirt press up there....  so while I call it a studio, we are a TEAM....   he has been up to the studio twice in the last day or two, just to visit, now that we can see the couch and actually sit on it......

Kids art supplies are switching over to better grade materials, they love it up there....  and now that stuff is put up, the little white girls are allowed to come up....  before they got stopped at the gate...  QTπ seems to be the one who will be visiting me the most.

Today is oral surgeon consult for Larry....  when they removed the ventilator tube in March it snagged on a cantilever bridge and broke it and a tooth....   saw a regular dentist, but because of his warfarin/coumadin, he cannot do anything...  so will know later what that will involve, he has not had anymore gastric bleed issues, so that is good.

Monday is the next heart appointment... this will be a month.... doing driveline dressing changesevery other day, had to get creative with tape, as the sorbaview covering is causing skin tears now...

Watching weather, hoping Irma shifts east, weather today is 78 for a high, 58 for a low...  gorgeous weather....
